Tangtoh Cafe and Restaurant

November 26, 2024
Welcome back to another restaurant review by the team at Phuket Lovin. If you’ve been following our journey, we’d love to hear where you’ve been so far.

Why not let us know in the comments? But first, get ready for an unmissable Western-Thai fusion restaurant. Sticking to our current theme of venues in Southern Phuket, the next one to add to your list is Tangtoh.

Read on for more.

Welcome to Tangtoh

Tangtoh is easy to miss if you’re not looking out for it; it’s located on the main road between Chalong and Phuket Town. Because it doesn’t have a beachside location, there’s slightly less footfall from tourists, but it’s definitely worth a trip (soon, you’ll find out why!).

Tangtoh

Tangtoh is open daily from 10:00-21:00, and you’ll find it at Chao Fah Tawan Tok Rd, Chalong, Mueng, Phuket 83130 (Google Maps link here).

Why We Love Tangtoh

From the outside, you’d have no idea the delights that are waiting inside Tangtoh! Step inside, and you’ll discover the unexpected: a cafe, a restaurant, and a mini-zoo.

Our impression was that Tangtoh was suitable for every type of customer. You can sit down for a morning coffee, order from the main menu, or get an order to go and play with a parrot on the way out!

The main customers seemed to be Thai locals, with a few digital nomads and some foreign families. The food and drinks were faultless; however, the standout part of our visit to Tangtoh was the zoo experience.

Living in Phuket, we’re not usually surprised by unlikely businesses fusing together (think a restaurant that also rents out mopeds!). What we weren’t expecting, was a Triton Cockatoo, Panther Chameleon, and a Giant Tortoise. Tangtoh provides an exciting animal experience without cages and cruelty. There are minimal restrictions on the animals, and they live away from the food preparation areas in a separate “exotic zone.”

Drinking and Dining at Tangtoh

After our initial surprise at the mini zoo in Tangtoh, we were ready for lunch. An extensive menu provided both Thai Southern style food and western options.

We chose to have:

  • Fried Rice with Fried Fish Curry (120 baht)
  • Iced Macha Latte (90 baht)
  • Macaroon (100 baht)

Our food was delicious and cooked in an authentic Thai style. We really felt that we were paying ‘local prices’ and receiving the highest quality service.

Remote Working at Tangtoh

Tangtoh provides everything you need for remote working: AC, plug sockets, WiFi, etc. However, you won’t find a remote working community at Tangtoh. If you’d love to do a few hours of work and then have a break while holding a chameleon, then this is the perfect place for you! Yet, it may not be if you’d simply find these animals distracting.

Nightlife and Events at Tangtoh

It probably goes without saying that there isn’t much of a nightlife scene at Restaurant. But they do offer a cake-making masterclass! You should definitely attend if you want to learn to bake as the Thai do. Make sure to talk to the staff about when their next workshop is.

Additionally, if you want to host an event at Restaurant, they regularly allow customers to hire the venue for private events.

Keeping Up to Date With Tangtoh

Tangtoh has an active Instagram page where you can view samples of their menu, and a sneak peek of the animals they have. You can also check out their Facebook page for business updates or to contact the owners.

Tangtoh: An Unexpected and Unmissable Restaurant in Phuket

The Restaurant certainly provides a unique dining experience and is one of the most unique restaurants in Phuket. If you want to broaden your horizons (and eat delicious food), Tangtoh will deliver.

So, call yourself a Grab taxi and head to Chalong for great food, welcoming staff, and exotic animals!
