Hello again from the team at Phuket Lovin, your local guide. We’re back with another review of a restaurant in Phuket that’s done so well in recent years, they’ve opened another venue!
Now, it’s time to move away from classic Thai restaurants and experience some Indian cuisine in Phuket. If you, like us, crave Indian curry, you’re in the right place. We’ll guide you through our trip to Highway Curry, and we hope you’ll also visit this excellent venue.
Read on to get started.
Welcome to Highway Curry
Highway Curry originally opened in Kata; due to their popularity and success (even during difficult COVID-19 times), they’ve now opened another venue in Rawai.
We visited the Rawai restaurant this week. It’s near Nai Harn, at 90, Soi Saiyuan, Rawai, Phuket, 83130 (Google Maps link here). There wasn’t any obvious parking, so if you’re driving, you’ll have to park across the road.
If you want to visit the Kata Highway Curry (North of Rawai, on the West coast), you can find it at 137, Koktanode Road Opposite, Phuket, 83100 (Google Maps link here).
The Rawai restaurant is open daily from 11:00-23:00, and the Kata restaurant opens daily from 10:00-22:00.
Why We Love Highway Curry
Walking into Highway Curry, we were immediately met with the pleasant smells of Indian cuisine and cooking ingredients. The venue is presented beautifully, and they had chill background music playing.
The staff were fantastic; they were always smiling, helpful, kind, and provided exceptional service throughout our visit. The building layout and design felt homely, while still maintaining professionalism and cleanliness. We felt as if we were receiving high-class service, but in a relaxed and chilled environment.
This restaurant is suitable for families on holiday, couples, and anyone else who loves Indian food. Plenty of seating options can accommodate groups between two and eight people.
Drinking and Dining at Highway Curry
We knew our food would be great when we looked around at the other customers; many were of Indian descent, and you always know the food is worth eating if the locals eat it!
However, don’t get overwhelmed by the extensive menu; there’s more choice than you can imagine. Highway Curry provides every curry you can think of, vegetarian options, vegan options, loads of meat and seafood choices, and simpler dishes for children.
We wondered whether such a large menu would compromise the quality of the food (it didn’t!). The chef spoke to us and explained how many of the curry bases are similar, so he has the base of each sauce pre-prepared and then cooks all the fresh ingredients into them – made to order.
We sampled the:
- Poppadums and sauces
- Butter Chicken (240 baht)
- Garlic Naan (80 baht)
- Pad Thai (80 baht)
- 3 Flavoured Pearls Coconut Cream
We were intrigued to see whether the Pad Thai would be classic style or have an Indian twist. It was similar to Pad Thai you’d buy from a Thai restaurant, so that’s a great option for those who don’t fancy Indian food.
Overall, all our food was delightful.
Remote Working at Highway Curry
There is wifi in the restaurant, however, it’s not a suitable venue for working.
Nightlife and Events at Highway Curry
Although Highway Curry isn’t a party spot, both the Rawai and Kata venues stay open late – 10pm and 11pm. If you fancy drinks after your evening meal, they’ll be more than happy to accommodate this (if you’re lucky, you may even get another plate of poppadums).
Keeping Up to Date With Highway Curry
For mouthwatering snapshots of what to expect at Highway Curry, take a look at their Instagram page! To order online, make a reservation, or simply learn more about the business, they’ve got an active website you can visit.
Additionally, if you’re in Kata, there’s a Facebook page dedicated to the restaurant there.
Highway Curry: An Indian Treat for All
If you’re craving Indian cuisine on your trip to Phuket, make sure you check out Highway Curry. You’ll be sure to be greeted by friendly faces, receive faultless service, and indulgent Indian dishes.
If you visit the Kata restaurant, let us know if it’s as great as our experience in Rawai!
