Hock Hoe Lee Cafe

November 26, 2024

Welcome back to another Phuket cafe review to help you plan your trip to Thailand. We’ve been filling up on indulgent Thai dishes recently and thought it was time to visit somewhere that sold really good coffee

If you’ve been to Phuket before, you’ll know that buying coffee is a trial and error experience. Will you get instant coffee with a jug of syrup, or Vietnamese-style coffee with a caffeine content that’ll stop you from sleeping for days? There’s only one way to know for sure; try it!

Fortunately, we’ve searched high and low for the best coffee in Phuket, and we think we’ve found it. Read on to learn more about Hock Hoe Lee Cafe.

Welcome to Hock Hoe Lee

There are two Hock Hoe Lee Cafes in Phuket; they’re located in Rawai and Phuket Old Town.

You’ll find the Rawai cafe at 28/9 Moo 5, Viset Road, Rawai, Mueng, Phuket 83130 (Google Maps link here). They’re open daily from 08:00-17:30, except on Sundays when they close at 17:00.

If you want to visit the Phuket Old Town cafe, go to 183 Ranong, Tambon Talat Nuea, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket 83000 (Google Maps link here). This cafe is open daily from 08:00-16:30, except on Sundays when they close early, at 11:30.

We visited the Rawai cafe before writing this post. There was plenty of parking and views of the natural Phuket landscape.

Why We Love Hock Hoe Lee

In a nutshell, we loved Hock Hoe Lee primarily because of the coffee! But there’s more to it than just the drinks. Hock Hoe Lee has a great atmosphere with sofas, small tables, and ample seating.

The cafe is suitable for families, friends, couples, and digital nomads. Most of the customers were tourists and a few Thai locals.

Everything about the interior of Hock Hoe Lee appears fresh, clean, modern, and aesthetic. It’s similar to independently-owned cafes in much of the Western world. They have coffee blends for sale in bags to take home, coffee beans on display, and lots of Hock Hoe Lee merchandise (branded coffee cups, etc.).

Drinking and Dining at Hock Hoe Lee

Let’s talk about the coffee first. They describe themselves as the “Original Phuket Coffee Roasters since 1958” and have strong ties to the island’s history. They talk about their journey to becoming the business they are today, on their website:

“As Thais started to grow coffee, and transportation was built bridging Phuket to other southern provinces, Hock Hoe Lee was able to buy Thai coffee bean to use for its coffee. Most coffee was from nearby while little harvested on island; virtually all of them were Robusta coffee bean. Today majority of Hock Hoe Lee coffee bean come from Northern and Southern Thailand combined.”

The Hock Hoe Lee is both extensive and delicious. So far, this is one of the only venues we’ve found that serves coffee made from beans grown in Thailand.

Although it was slightly overshadowed by our delight in getting such exquisite coffee, the food shouldn’t be overlooked. The food prices are more than average on the island, but the quality is high. Their menu is mainly breakfast-style dishes; our food was cooked and presented very similarly to how we would expect it in an expensive restaurant back home.

We enjoyed our entire order of:

  • Cold Brew Coffee (105 baht)
  • Eggs Benedict with Avocado (255 baht)
  • 100% Cold Pressed Juice Summer Chill (200 baht)

Remote Working at Hock Hoe Lee

Hock Hoe Lee is a fantastic option for remote working if you require a strong caffeine hit for optimal productivity! There’s a good working area that isn’t too noisy, AC, Wifi, and plug sockets.
